Welcome Message From the Principal

Welcome! I am pleased to welcome you to Middle College High School. I want to strongly urge all students—and parents—to make the very most of the unique academic opportunities at our school. Our program offers students the rare opportunity to take college courses while still in high school.

This encourages the students to develop on two levels: academically and socially. MCHS students have the opportunity to not only graduate from high school, but can earn college credits that transfer to four-year universities. Our students begin taking college classes in the ninth grade. Students who work hard and take advantage of the opportunities available can earn an Associate of Arts degree, or transfer enough credits to enter a four-year university as a sophomore or junior. This means that our students walk out of the door with skills unmatched by many high school graduates, and head starts on options for their career choices.

Additionally, the experiences our students have by taking courses on the college campus impacts their maturity level. They are expected, as are all college students, to behave as adults. The responsibility for punctuality, attendance, and completion of their assignments, is theirs. While we provide support and intervention when appropriate, when our students are successful, they know they are indeed “college bound” and this encourages continued success.

Our small campus and student body allow for meaningful interaction between all staff members and students. This fosters positive relationships between our students, faculty and the families we serve. Many adults know students and are available to provide guidance, share in celebrations, and provide the proverbial shoulder to cry on or to lend an ear when needed.

Plato was correct when he wrote in The Republic, “The direction in which education starts a man will determine his future life.” We are confident at Middle College High School that the direction we are taking will lead to the future success of our students.
